Indulging in something sweet and tantalizing shouldn’t have to come at the price of devastating your body. Yes, you heard me correctly, you can have it all! Eating clean doesn’t mean sacrificing your favorite delights, it just means approaching them a little differently. There are so many whole, healthy, and delicious ingredients out there to build from! Today I’m going to show you a perfect example of that with one of our classic favorites: brownies. Not only is it a gift to our taste buds, but it’s healing for our bodies. Now, I’m not telling you brownies are a health food, but when you make them this way, you are being kind to your health, and let’s be honest, kind to your soul- and there is something seriously healthy to be said for that! We cannot achieve our highest potential if our minds aren’t as healthy as the foods we nourish our bodies with. Though it is good to practice discipline, it is also good to practice moderation. I would find it very hard to be true to my healthy food practices if it meant giving up my favorite treats forever. I will be sharing more of my favorite soul pleasures with you as we go to keep us honest and on track! The more we learn to substitute processed, refined inflammatory foods, for whole, nutritious ingredients the easier it will be to eliminate those harmful “foods” all together!

* 1 1/2 cups Mashed Baked Sweet Potato (no skin) * 1/4 cup Maple syrup * 1 tsp Baking soda * 2 tsp Cinnamon * 3 tbsp cacao powder, unsweetened * 1 tsp vanilla extract * 1 cup almond butter (or nut butter of your choice) * 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (or other nut) * 1/3 cup chocolate chips
Instructions: 1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. 2. In a large mixing bowl combine baking soda, cinnamon, cacao powder, and walnuts. Mix together 3. Next, introduce your sweet potato, maple syrup, vanilla extract, and almond butter into the same bowl. 4. Mix all of your ingredients together (leaving out the chocolate chips for now) 5. Grease an 8x8 baking dish and pour in your brownie mixture. 6. Top with chocolate chips 7. Bake for 25 mins. 8. Remove and allow to cool before you cut and enjoy!*** ***ENJOY THEM LONGER: I froze half of the pan by wrapping them individually in plastic wrap. When I’m ready to enjoy one I just remove it and microwave it for 30-60 seconds (adjust to your microwave).
